Type "trash day 64155" into a search bar and you want one word back. For a handful of Northland ZIP codes we can give you that word. For the rest, the honest answer is two days and a map.
The reason is older than most of the houses up here. The Post Office introduced ZIP codes on July 1, 1963, to sort mail. Trash routes came from somewhere else entirely: city limits, hauler contracts, and how many carts one truck can empty before it has to dump. Those two sets of lines were never meant to match, and north of the river they often don't. Kansas City, MO alone covers about 319 square miles and 508,090 people (2020 census), so one ZIP can hold two city route days, or two different cities.
We know because we had to sort it out for our own trucks. For our trash day map we pulled more than 46,000 KC Northland parcels from the city's open data, then added the Liberty and Kearney route maps from each city's own GIS. The table below is what that map shows for each ZIP we serve.

"Most common day" means the day most addresses in that ZIP are on. Where two days are listed, the ZIP is split and your street decides. Each ZIP links to its own lookup page.

Treat this as a starting point. A ZIP tells you which rulebook you're probably under. Your street tells you the day.
The KCMO Northland ZIPs
If your cart has a Kansas City sticker on it, the city sets your day. The rules are the same on every route:
- Carts at the curb by 7 a.m. Trucks don't run the same order every week, so "they usually come at noon" is a gamble.
- All trash bagged, lid closed. The Northland got the city's new carts first, starting in August 2025, and the cart is the limit.
- Extra bags need a pre-paid tag.
- Questions go to 311, not to a hauler.
ZIPs with one main day
64117 and 64161 are Friday. 64153, the Tiffany Springs and KCI ZIP, is Thursday. 64156, 64157, and 64158, the run of newer subdivisions from Shoal Creek east to the Liberty line, are Wednesday. If you live in one of these and a neighbor two streets over has a different day, look at the map before assuming one of you is wrong. Route edges don't follow ZIP edges exactly.
ZIPs that are split
64154 is divided between Monday and Thursday. 64155 is the largest Northland ZIP on our map, with more than 7,500 parcels, and it's divided between Monday and Wednesday. The far north ZIPs, 64163 through 64167, run Monday and Wednesday too, though several of them have few homes.
In a split ZIP, the dividing line is usually a major road or a creek, and newer subdivisions often get added to whichever route has room. That's why two houses built the same year, a half mile apart off N Oak Trafficway, can roll carts out on different mornings. We covered what the city cart does through a Missouri summer in your KCMO cart's first summer.
ZIPs where one city sets one day
Two Northland cities are simple.
North Kansas City (64116) is Tuesday for every home inside city limits, through GFL. The catch is that 64116 reaches past the NKC line. Homes up the hill toward Briarcliff are in Kansas City, MO and follow the KCMO schedule. Our North Kansas City guide has the full rules.
Riverside is Friday for every home, also through GFL, and the city covers the bill. Street addresses in Riverside use 64150, and 64168 is the PO box ZIP, so you'll see both. Holiday weeks slide Riverside pickup to Saturday.
ZIPs with a route for almost every weekday
Liberty, Kearney, and Smithville each have a single ZIP and a single program, and each one still has four or five different trash days.
- Liberty (64068) has five GFL routes, Monday through Friday, and neighborhoods a mile apart can land on different ones. Details are in our Liberty guide.
- Kearney (64060) has four routes, Monday through Thursday. See the Kearney trash schedule.
- Smithville (64089) has four GFL routes: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday. Nothing runs Tuesday. Smithville also recognizes only three collection holidays, which we explain in the Smithville pickup guide.
For these three, the ZIP narrows nothing. Go straight to the street lookup.
ZIPs where your hauler sets the day
In Gladstone (64118 and most of 64119), Parkville, and Weatherby Lake (64152), the day comes from a hauler contract, not from the city. Sometimes the contract is yours. Often it's your subdivision's.
That changes how you look it up. The fastest source is your invoice or your HOA, because two neighbors on different haulers can have different days on the same street. Weatherby Lake is the exception: the whole city is on Republic Services. Our GFL vs. Republic breakdown compares the two haulers you're most likely to have.
64151 is the most mixed ZIP on the list. It holds KCMO addresses on city carts, the city of Platte Woods on a GFL contract, and subdivisions on the Parkville side with contracts of their own. Tuesday and Thursday show up most on our map, but check your address before you trust that.
How to confirm your trash day in two minutes
- Look at the cart. A KCMO sticker means city service. A Republic or GFL logo with no city sticker usually means a contract.
- Look up your street on the trash day map. Find your street and tap it to see the route day.
- Check one neighbor. If the three houses nearest yours roll out on the same morning, that's your day. A neighbor across a main road doesn't count.
- Just moved in? Our Northland move-in trash checklist covers who to call in each city.
Holiday weeks
Most Northland programs push pickup back one day after a recognized holiday, for the rest of that week. A Thursday route becomes Friday, and a Friday route becomes Saturday. The list of recognized holidays is not the same everywhere. Kansas City posts its list on kcmo.gov, and Smithville only counts New Year's Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Thanksgiving is the week people get caught, so check now.
Why we ask for your trash day first
Our signup asks for your trash day because we clean carts the day after pickup, when they're empty. A Wednesday route gets cleaned Thursday. A cart that still has three bags in it can't be washed, and a cart cleaned the morning after pickup gets almost a full week before the next load goes in.
It also explains our route map. 64155 gets cleaned on Tuesdays and Thursdays because its trash goes out Mondays and Wednesdays. We follow the haulers around the Northland one day behind.
Trash day by ZIP FAQs
What day is trash pickup in 64155?
Monday or Wednesday, depending on your street. 64155 is served by KCMO Solid Waste and split between two routes. Look up your address on the 64155 page.
Does my ZIP code determine my trash day?
Not by itself. City limits and hauler routes decide the day, and ZIP codes cross both. A few Northland ZIPs have one main day, including 64116 inside North Kansas City (Tuesday), 64153 (Thursday), and 64156 (Wednesday).
Why do my neighbor and I have different trash days?
Either a route boundary runs between you, or you're on different haulers. In Kansas City, MO it's the route line. In Gladstone and Parkville it's usually the hauler.
What time should my cart be at the curb?
By 7 a.m. on your pickup day in Kansas City, MO and Smithville. Other Northland programs ask for about the same, and putting the cart out the night before is the safe habit.
When does Bin Bros KC clean my bin?
The day after your trash is picked up, at the curb, while the cart is empty. Nobody needs to be home. We use 200°F water and a pet-safe deodorizer made with essential oils, with no soap and no bleach, and we capture the wash water on the truck.
